What is the appeal of astrology? Across social media, astrological knowledge and theory is widely disseminated and discussed. There must be something special about this pseudo-science for it to capture the attention of so many. Combining interviews with visualisations of abstract thought, this video essay explores different analyses of online astrological practice, casting light on the ways it can be used for identification, as a way of self-exploration or self-assertion. It considers the manifold ways astrology crafts and sustains interpersonal relationships, exploring the ambiguous connections between astrology, science, pseudoscience and emotional knowledge—finally connecting astrological practices to new iterations of humanity or posthumanity.
